| Vietnamese Language Miscellaneous Facts
Vietnamese, formerly known under the French colonization
as Annamese, is the national and official language of Vietnam.
It is the mother tongue of Vietnamese people, who constitute
86% of Vietnam's population (82.1 Million), and of about four
million overseas Vietnamese, most of which live in the United
States
In the past years, Vietnam became one of the fastest-growing
economies in the world averaging around 8% annual gross domestic
product (GDP) growth. Foreign trade and foreign direct investment
have improved significantly. The shift away from a centrally
planned economy to a more market-oriented economic model improved
the quality of life for many Vietnamese.
Internet use is on a steady rise, with about 14.5 million
regular users as of October 2006 for Vietnam alone, in addition
to 2.2 million Vietnamese language users in North America.
A very substantial market indeed…
